![]() ![]() This works in Symphonia, because the game is not taking itself serious all the time (is also told in a more fast paced fashion and has a lot more going on in its story), but doesn't in Arise. Arise shows this clearest by the comically bad and one dimensional antagonists (one of whom even proclaims that he has has no ambitions and is just an ass because he can be). I'd also argue that the writing style of the Tales team is more suited to entertaining journeys with serious topics (I would even consider Berseria to be this, due to the many funny skits and Magilou) rather than a serious journey with some jokes inbetween. This is a system they can now expand upon. They removed a lot of baggage of Zestiria / Berseria and went back to the roots. Where the streamlining was succesfull to me was in the equipment. There is very little sense of wonder in the world. Side content in Arise is, except for fishing, also bland. There is no real exploration to be had in Arise, because everything is marked, you even see (most) sidequests on the teleport menu. Dungeons have been boring at least since Zestiria (did not play Xilia) and Arise only puts nice makeup on them, they are still pretty bad. Modern games have mostly stripped away the latter three aspects. They do not only have good characters, story and gameplay, but also exploration, side content and dungeons. The best Tales games are for me the "complete package" ones, in particular Symphonia and Abyss. Very adorable and not talking probably helped a lot. The story was typical Tales power of friendship shounen anime stuff. ![]() Tales of symphonia colette a a b loop series#The romance was surprisingly well done in a series that often leaves it hanging with no real conclusion. I could understand their reasonings but they weren’t overly stubborn and were open to change. The character development of Shionne and Rinwell was very good. I didn’t mind the final dungeon because I was having a blast fighting all those powerful enemies. I didn’t avoid any battles because of how much fun I was having. So I don’t agree with some of the stuff I’ve seen said like long time fans not liking it and only newer fans enjoying it. I went back and played the older titles too. I’ve been playing the games, buying collectors editions, and other merchandise ever since. ![]() I’m a long time fan since they localized Symphonia on GameCube. ![]()
